Searching for the Perfect Family Cabin
PENINSULA PULSE

A couple of years ago, LakePlace.com co-founders Dave Gooden & Cameron Henkel, were searching for their own perfect family cabins "up north." The sites were limited to a small geographic area – forcing the duo to visit website after website, making the search very time consuming.

Cameron & Dave had a good understanding of what makes a user-friendly website. After discussing the problems they encountered while searching for that cabin on the lake, they knew "there had to be a better way." After a few months of research and development, LakePlace.com was conceived.

Using the website knowledge they had gained in the past years, they created LakePlace.com to be very user friendly and a self-service site. The site started attracting attention from day one. They decided to add private cabins and family resorts to the site. The next year brought more visitors than they had imagined, and LakePlace.com was gaining notoriety through word of mouth.

The vision remains simple and clear. Create, maintain and improve an online directory that encompasses the "Up North" lifestyle. One single, easy to use website, which neatly organizes lake property, private cabins, and family resorts throughout all regions of Minnesota & Wisconsin – eliminating the time consuming task of jumping from website to website in search of the perfect lake place. Whether people are looking for property or simply want to get away for the weekend – LakePlace.com has tried to make it a little easier for users to get started.

The website features more than 280 private cabin rentals and 2300 family resorts throughout the two states. Currently, there are 60 resorts in Door County that use LakePlace.com.

"While a lot of our visitors are searching for that perfect cabin on the lake, many are travelers planning a vacation in the area," added Gooden. "We like to think of ourselves as the ‘Unofficial Tourism’ website for the region."
