For a part of my childhood (late 80s-mid 90s), I grew up on this private lake and enjoyed great perch and pike fishing. Yet the fishing has greatly diminished in the last decade. I heard from one camp owner that the DNR told him the lack of pike was due to a permanent drop in water level, which I can't seem to agree with since it still seems to be the exact same depth now! I go up every Labor Day weekend and usually catch at least 2 pike over roughly 6 hrs. of fishing, and the pike seem to be getting smaller and smaller. I remember when I was about 12, seeing an actual school of pike at the north end of the lake by the springs. My older bro and I fished this school for a few days, in which he caught the big one of the group, which was 34 inches. Other than that, I would say around 93', my dad Joe Benson Sr. caught a 32 inch pike off of the point on the south side and was bitten in the arm trying to land it(he had no net) on shore by getting out of the boat on the sandbar! It is the first and last time I have ever heard of this instance locally! The biggest kicker of all, my older brother had that same pike a few hours earlier break his line and take his lure. When my dad walked the pike down the road 300 yards or so back to our camp, we all seen my bro's lure in it's mouth! It was the same pike...jaws!!! lol Those were the days...
