I spent every summer on this lake as a child with my family. It is about 2 hours from Chicago, 20 minutes from Madison. Stoughton is a great small town with a vibrant downtown district with shops, coffee shops, and more. A wonderful 18 hole private golf course on the lake and several public courses within 10 to 20 minutes. Kegonsa is part of the Yahara River lakes chain, not connected to the Madison lakes, which enables you to enjoy less boat traffic, great skiing, and a wonderful State Park with camping, beaches and fishing. It is one of Dane Counties, well kept secrets. There are still some cottages on this lake, but most of the cottages have been replace with beautiful high end homes.
