The cabin was built in 1956 by Milt Stenlund, the DNR researcher and author whose work helped protect the Minnesota timber wolf and contributed to the early efforts that led to the creation of the International Wolf Center in Ely. Stenlund was a friend of Sigurd Olson, sharing in the conservation movement that shaped the BWCAW. The cabin has been in the family all these years and is is a piece of Ely's cultural and ecological legacy. The cabin is very comfortable and has a nostalgic, classic Burntside feel to it. The main room has an open concept kitchen, living and dining room all with log beams and vaulted ceilings, and great lake views! There is 1 bedroom facing the lake, and also a second bedroom, with the 3/4 bathroom in between. Great times and fellowship will be had in the large screen porch that also faces the lake! Closer to the lake is a large barrel shaped sauna that can easily house 6 people, and is perfect for sauna to lake dives off the long dock! Also, lakeside decks for lounging, the large dock, the great swimming beach, and the beautiful rocky point with a hiking trail along the shore. This is Burntside Lake at its finest: tall pine trees, crystal clear water, great vistas, and a place to make great lifetime memories! There is also a large 24 x 11 storage building that has a nice workshop and a bonus room. Septic system, lake water system. The setting is spectacular!
