Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin - Lake Homes, Cabins & Lake Lots
Sure, northern Wisconsin is synonymous with fishing, world-class outdoor recreation, forests and more, but few consider the rich cultural and historic attractions that help comprise this unique area of the country. Vacation here and not only will your kids get to experience hiking, fishing and boating as they were meant to be experienced, they will also be able to gain a greater appreciation for the unique history of this region and the impact it has had on the economic and cultural development of the nation as a whole. With all of the natural beauty of the region, Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin and its surrounding area have easily become one of the finest vacation destinations in the entire state.
The Ojibwe Indians and other tribes were among the first inhabitants of this region, infusing their unique spirit and love of nature into the very fiber of the region. In fact, the name Chippewa itself is the alternative form of the word Ojibwe. Thereafter, European settlers moved into the area in search of furs and other natural resources in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. Sometime around 1700, French explorer Pierre-Charles Le Sueur discovered the Chippewa Spring; water from the source was ultimately bottled in the late 1800's. A Spring House was constructed over the original spring in 1893, a structure which still stands today. Chippewa Falls itself was officially incorporated as a city in 1869. Northern Wisconsin was further shaped by the lumber and paper industries. Ultimately, Chippewa Falls became an important mainstay on the Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls Railway line. Today, tourism plays an important role in the economic and cultural life of the region. Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin is home to the Heyde Center for the Arts, which is situated in the original McDonell High School building, a site included on the State and National Register of Historic Places. The Heyde Center for the Arts today is a venue for local craftsmen and artists to showcase their wares. Chippewa Falls was also the location of the headquarters for the original Cray Research and the home of the famous Jacob Leinenkugal Brewing Company, for the beer lover in your family.
To truly experience the unique history of Chippewa Falls, be sure to check out the Cook-Rutledge Mansion, a beautifully reconstructed Victorian era mansion that was originally home to lumber tycoon Edward Rutledge. The Cook-Rutledge Mansion is also on the National Register of Historic Places. Chippewa Falls is also home to the Chippewa Falls Museum of Industry and Technology, which highlights the scientific contributions of local industry leaders such as Cray Research, the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and Hubbard Scientific.
After exploring the great outdoors and the historic sites, relax and unwind as you enjoy the Fanny Hill Dinner Theatre. Visit the O'Neill Creek Winery, the River Bend Winery or the Autumn Harvest Winery where great Wisconsin wines meet excellent local food pairings. Sample some delectable Wisconsin cheeses at the Heerde's Cheese House or Yellowstone Cheese. Stroll through a local farmer's market and sample some of the local orchard fruits or farm produce. Or, simply relax and unwind on the deck of your very own vacation home or lake lot as you overlook one of the many area lakes. Even the quiet moments are rich and memorable here in Chippewa Falls.
Even if you've never been here, chances are the name Chippewa Falls probably sounds familiar. Chippewa Falls was the home of the fictional Jack Dawson in the world-famous movie, Titanic. Chippewa Falls is located in Chippewa County along the scenic Chippewa River in northwest Wisconsin. With a population of approximately 13,500, Chippewa Falls is large enough to be a bit cosmopolitan without losing its cozy sense of community.
The quality of life here in Chippewa Falls is high. The cost of living is relatively low, especially when compared with other coastal locations in the continental United States. The schools here are excellent and the area is served by the Chippewa Falls Area School District along with several parochial schools. Numerous parks and a local pool all serve the needs of the community, providing lovely open spaces for picnics, family time, concerts and other outdoor events. There are charming shops and quaint diners, all located with the city of Chippewa Falls itself. Real estate is plentiful here in Chippewa Falls, although if a particular property catches your eye, it is essential to act quickly. With the current low mortgage rates and reasonable prices on homes, property is a hot commodity in and around the Chippewa Falls area.
Come to Chippewa Falls to explore the history of northwest Wisconsin along with all of the world-class outdoor recreation folks have come to expect from northwest Wisconsin. Stay a few days, a week, a month or even more!
